Pope's Ground-zero Visit to Include Some Members of Victims' Families

(Source: Catholic News Service)

NEW YORK (CNS) -- The Archdiocese of New York is organizing a small group of family members of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to participate in Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the World Trade Center site the morning of April 20.

Because of the solemnity of the visit and for security reasons, the number of participants will be limited and family representatives will be selected by lottery. The visit will be televised.

Tickets for all papal events in New York already have been allocated to parishes within the New York Archdiocese and to bishops in other dioceses. They will be mailed after April 1.

Each diocese outside the Archdiocese of New York has been given the opportunity to receive an allotment of tickets for the Mass at Yankee Stadium. Individuals in these dioceses are urged to contact their local bishop about ticket availability.

Ticket allocations also have been sent to dioceses that requested tickets for papal events in Washington. Tickets to parishes in the Washington Archdiocese also have been allocated and will be distributed by pastors.
